Ib Spang Olsen spent time in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote in February and March 1969 and drew many perspectives of the island. Truly a superb feat. Only in 1972 were these 50 sets of limited prints produced from his drawings.
He was a famous illustrator from Denmark and throughout his career, he illustrated for newspapers, magazines, books, comics, and even television and posters.
Hi most famous book illustration was the Little Train (in English).
Playa Blanca in Yaiza Lanzarote was once the tiniest fishing village on the island of Lanzarote. I was there when the beach could accommodate about 10 people in the 1980’s.
Now it has become one of the biggest tourist resorts of the island and is unrecognisable to me. It would certainly be unrecognisable to Olsen if he were still alive.
