A most beautiful hand-signed in pencil limited edition print from 1972 by Ib Spang Olsen.
The print depicts the tiny fishing village of Playa Blanca in 1969 when the artist drew them.
Depicts the whitewashed houses, donkeys, mountains in the background and local people.
Absolutely beautiful, ready to be framed.
The print is one of a limited edition of a set of 28 hand signed prints published in an edition of 50 sets only in 1972. I have the whole set of 28 prints, numbered set 33 of 50 sets. Ib Spang Olsen spent time in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote in Febrary and March 1969 and drew many perspectives of the island. Truly a superb feat. Only in 1972 were these limited prints produced.
He was a famous illustrator from Denmark and throughout his career, he illustrated for newspapers, magazines, books, comics, and even television and posters.
Hi most famous book illustration was the Little Train (in English).
Playa Blanca in Yaiza Lanzarote was once the tiniest fishing village on the island of Lanzarote. I was there when the beach could accommodate about 10 people in the 1980’s.
Now it has become one of the biggest tourist resorts of the island and is unrecognisable to me. It would certainly be unrecognisable to Olsen if he were still alive.
I have the whole set of these 28 hand signed prints, but I am selling them individually. I will be putting them up on the website over the next few days.
