Cesar Manrique Large Vintage Signed Serigraph Print BODEGON Still Life Lanzarote

Cesar Manrique transformed the island of Lanzarote, his homeland. Tragically killed in a fatal car accident in 1992, at just 72 years old, he was fundamentally an environmentalist, an artist, architect, thinker and lover and protector of his home. His work saved Lanzarote from becoming yet another Spanish tacky tourist resort - destroyed by the need and greed for an income from tourism, while the local campesinos toiled, he never forgot their heritage. He created a utopia of visitors sites from the natural materials of the island - Lava, rock, volcanic ash, cactii, sand and sea and a vision of volcanic island life that all hope will never be lost. Long may he live on.

I myself was lucky to have been influenced by the island and the man himself, and of course the beautiful people of the island. My daughter is a Conejera (a girl born in Lanzarote).
